Mahathir Mohamad is the ‘king of demons’, hence no one can ever demonise the former premier.
Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Huan Cheng Guan said Mahathir had already demonised himself by seeking political help from the “corrupted” DAP.
Commenting on Mahathir’s claim that the CIA was trying to demonise him, Huan called on the Pribumi party chairman to stop ridiculing himself and quickly retire from politics for good.
“How can you demonise a demon?
“How can anyone demonise Tun Mahathir when he himself is the king of demons?
“Mahathir had only demonised himself by his recent acts especially when he turned to the most corrupted political party in Malaysia, the DAP, asking for help,” said Huan in a strongly-worded statement on Wednesday.
The CIA, in its summary of the BMF scandal that happened in 1980s, had hinted that circumstantial evidence suggested the scandal extended into Mahathir’s administration, who was prime minister at the time.
In his response, Mahathir has said that the foreign press was always attacking him because he had been relentless in criticising the western powers whenever they did something wrong.
“So they demonise me. They accuse me of things I didn’t do,” he said.
The summary titled ‘The Bank Bumiputera Scandal: More Trouble Ahead for Malaysia’s Mahathir?’ was written in 1985 but released online recently following the intelligence agency’s move to declassify some 13 million pages of various documents.
The BMF scandal saw Bank Bumiputera suffering a loss of USD1 billion after, together with BMF which was its subsidiary in Hong Kong, was said to have granted bad loans to several Hong Kong property speculators including the Carrian Group.
Huan said Mahathir was merely giving “lame excuses” that the CIA was trying to demonise him, pointing out that it was common knowledge that the reports were released because of the Freedom of Information Act sanctioned by the US president.
Of the 800,000 reports, which counted up to 13 million pages, that were released, he said the report on BMF scandal was just one report consisting only 9 pages.
Thus, he said there was no way that the CIA deliberately released those reports just to demonise Mahathir.
“Stop ridiculing yourself and your supporters and please retire from politics forever and ever,” Huan told Mahathir.
